IMM200

Creative Digital Design

Project Brief

In an advancing technology environment, the new technologies change the way we work, create and play. These advancements also change our working environments as both employers and clients adapt to change in software or device application.

For many years we have seen the advancement of Virtual Reality, AI and AR becoming part of day-to-day life. We are already at the dawn of Metaverse experiences that will push us away from the flat screen and let users experience immersive technologies.

This module will help you develop new skills in software that can output new user experiences.  You will work on a range of workshops that will demonstrate various workflows to produce a final output.  You will also be introduced to 3D which will be used to output content for Games, AR and VR technologies.

Each session will be recorded as a Demo and Do experience giving you time to learn new skills, apply them to your own work and to develop new skills within your apprenticeship.

The content is expected to include:

The principles, controls and workflow inherent in building, texturing, animating and rendering 3D models, including XYZ Space, scaling and transforms, and the range of uses in the real world (e.g., Architecture, Construction, Games, Immersive, Automotive, Aerospace, Medical, Space etc.).

The fundamentals, origins, application, and potential of contemporary immersive technologies, such as AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality and XR (Mixed Reality), including psychology aspects of 3D environments, and the uses in the real world (including Internet of Things, Architecture, Construction, Games, Retail, Automotive, Aerospace, Medical etc.).

How to undertake real world 3D digital capture and process 3D data.

3D Software

Augmented Reality

Virtual Reality Techniques

360 Cameras

Motion Capture

Project Reflection

Honestly, IMM200 has been an absolute game changer for me – easily one of my favourite modules so far. Going headfirst into immersive technologies was completely new territory and although I felt like I was just scratching the surface at times, that's what made it so exciting. Opening up this whole new world of possibilities has allowed me to produce a range of different artefacts and guided me through new avenues of production within my apprenticeship.

I won't lie, there were definitely moments where I bit off more than I could chew, but that initial creative idea always pushed me through. It was incredibly rewarding to see some of my designs actually come to life, even if I was figuring things out as I went along. As I previously mentioned, I also got to bring some of these experiments back to my workplace, Glo, and it's been amazing to see them already being used as marketing material. Getting the robot boy model I sculpted to follow a command sequence in Aero, using all the knowledge I'd built up, was particularly satisfying; it really showed me how much you can potentially push these new platforms.

This module really got me hooked on 3D modelling; it's amazing to create objects, texture, stage them and push into digital marketing. I'm keen to explore so much more, especially getting into VR – maybe bringing my 'Boundless Books' idea to life as a VR experience in Unity, blending digital tech with physical books, or even making learning more interactive for students.

Ultimately, IMM200 has thrown open so many doors for me. I believe that combining these new software workflows with everything else I've learned will let me create genuinely exciting digital experiences. It's laid out a clear path for a career where I can constantly explore, innovate and make things that delight, educate and capture peoples attention. I'm excited to see where this journey takes me next!
